Dogs communicate with us all the time, and it is time we took that information and used it to build and engage with our protection dogs more effectively.
Trying to piece things together while working a dog is frustrating
especially when what you see in front of you doesn't make any sense.
This frustration boils down to even more problems, like:
- Being unsure of the drivestate the dog is in, which prevents you from fixing problems.
- Washing dogs too early and unnecessarily.
- Unknowingly creating unclear communication during the out and guarding phases, resulting in the dreaded DQ.
- Displacement behavior, such as not barking, but offering all other behaviors instead, such as clapping teeth, jumping, bumping or biting the sleeve.
These are all expensive trial losses and carry heavy penalties or worse, a DQ.

Hi, I'm Joeri Veth

Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, I started my IGP career at the tender age of 11 and titled my first dog at 13.
I became a certified club helper at 16, a regional certified helper at 17 and a national certified helper at 18 years old.
As a handler, I have competed at numerous championships in the Netherlands, Norway and the USA, placing first in several regionals in the Netherlands and USA. I placed first at the Norwegian Nationals with numerous podium placements, including World Qualifiers and National Championships.
As a trial helper, I have been selected to perform at many club trials along with regional and national championships in the Netherlands, Norway, the USA and South Africa.
I coach both helpers and handlers in training and preparation for various championship trials, including regional and world championships.
I am the Lead Training Helper for American Schutzhund and an AS and IGP Judge.
